Visits to clients are booked in advance, but some flexibility is needed in case of staff sickness. This role can be worked on an ad hoc basis.


The role of a volunteer chaperone is to support advocates on their first visits with their clients. Initial visits can take place in a client's home, a care home or a hospital setting. By attending first visits with an advocate, volunteers are able to gain first hand experience of how an advocate works with their clients. The role can be developed into further advocacy volunteering opportunities.

Chaperone volunteers need to be flexible, have a current valid driving licence and access to their own car. They will be working with advocates within the Generic, Mental Health, Mental Capacity and Health Complaints advocacy teams. The role can vary from two client visits a week, to one client visit a month.
