Description

With another volunteer, provide information and support to enable people to join and interact with the CU; collect, record and bank repayments and savings.

Learn more about the credit union and financial health. Get to know fellow volunteers. Meet a wide variety of people. Be helpful.

Service points are advertised as open for two or 2.5 hours but add set-up, breakdown, and banking, so around three hours commitment.

Service Points operate weekly - volunteers commit to regular weekly, fortnightly, monthly, and/or extra duties to cover sickness and holidays.

Frome Library on Saturday mornings 10 – 12; Key Centre, Frome Thursdays 9:00 - 11:30; also
Salvation Army Hall Shepton Mallet Tuesdays 10 - 12;
Crispin Community Centre, Street Fridays 10- 12;
Glastonbury & Wells Libraries Saturday mornings 10 – 12;

Also telephone based SP volunteering opportunities, back office roles on loan team, treasury team and management committee but experience at Service Points an essential starting point.

Organisation Description

Mendip Community Credit Union is dedicated to furthering financial health by incentivising saving, supporting budgeting and by responsible lending.

MCCU is governed, managed and run solely by volunteers so there are opportunities at various levels of skills and experience.

Requirements

Listening, communicating clearly, literacy, numeracy, being reasonably organised.

A degree of compassion (not a degree in compassion)!

Sessions vary enormously depending on who presents - a wide range of people and circumstances can be encountered.

Service Points are the only place where people can join and the main point of direct contact so are a crucial and the most visible face of the credit union.
